Photobiomodulation (PBM) uses precisely dosed, low-energy laser light at defined wavelengths. The light can influence biological processes within cells that are involved, among other things, in inflammation regulation, tissue regeneration and wound healing. [1]
Photobiomodulation for Wounds
Chronic wounds can be affected in their healing by a variety of factors. Photobiomodulation is therefore being studied as a complementary therapy, particularly in diabetic foot ulcers. [2]
Studies and systematic reviews indicate a possible supportive effect on wound healing. At the same time, the scientific evidence is not equally strong for all wound types and treatment situations. [2, 3, 5]
Other Potential Applications
Photobiomodulation is also being investigated in various healing and regenerative processes, including pain, inflammatory conditions, muscle and tendon injuries, burns and scar healing. [1, 4]
The scientific evidence varies depending on the area of application. Treatment is therefore always considered in the context of the individual clinical situation.
What Matters?
The effects of photobiomodulation depend, among other things, on the wavelength and dosage. Treatment parameters are therefore selected according to the individual treatment situation. [2, 3]
At WundPal, laser therapy is not considered in isolation. It is integrated into an individual wound management concept. The basis is a professional wound assessment and consideration of the individual treatment situation.
The Therapy Device Used
For photobiomodulation, WundPal uses the iLux Plus Therapy Laser (ILux LF HPS R2).
The device operates at a wavelength of 650 nm and allows targeted treatment using different treatment and pulse modes. Different applicators are available depending on the treatment situation.

Laser Therapy at WundPal
At WundPal, laser therapy is used as a complementary measure within an individual treatment concept. Whether and when its use is appropriate is determined as part of the professional initial assessment and wound assessment.
Treatment is carried out in accordance with applicable laser safety regulations. As a trained Laser Safety Officer, I ensure that the therapy laser is used appropriately and safely.
